Why do slippers smell?
1. Not only in summer, but also in winter.
In summer, people wear slippers for a longer time. When it is hot, the microorganisms on the feet are more likely to "ferment" and emit an unpleasant odor.
2. The material of slippers
Currently, the common slipper materials on the market include PVC, EVA, hot rubber, PU leather and other materials.
Most of our plastic slippers are made of EVA and PVC because they are cheap. However, natural rubber, PU leather and other materials are much more expensive.
EVA slippers are made of ethylene (E) and vinyl acetate (VA) copolymer. From a material perspective, EVA is environmentally friendly, has no pungent odor, is soft and odor-resistant. Note that what is said here is odor-resistant, not odor-resistant and odorless! It is odorless, not odorless! However, merchants will not explain it directly.
PVC slippers are also called foam slippers. PVC is the basic raw material with plasticizers, foaming agents and other additives added. With the characteristics of softness and bright colors, it is also the slipper with the largest output on the market. The disadvantage is that the production process of PVC slippers is complicated, strict and the production efficiency is low. Therefore, in order to increase profits, some unscrupulous merchants will cut corners and use second-hand recycled materials for crushing and reuse. So some slippers smell pungent, just remember not to buy them.
Of course, slippers made of PVC are not necessarily all inferior products, but some unscrupulous merchants may pretend to be some. If you can't tell, just buy EVA slippers.
3. Slipper usage habits
Some friends can wear a pair of slippers in any scene, such as taking a shower and wearing wet slippers to dry naturally. But in this case, the bath water mixed with microorganisms, shower gel, impurities in the air, etc. will accumulate in the crevices of the slippers over time, forming an unpleasant smell
4. Personal constitution is also related
I wonder if you have any impression? When I was a kid, I rarely felt cold sweat on my feet when I wore slippers. But now, even if I wear slippers with dry feet, I will soon feel cold sweat on my feet, especially in air-conditioned rooms or when the weather is cold. The soles of my feet are not only stiff but also sweaty. The sweat glands on my feet are more developed than before. In summer, the bacteria on my feet accumulate on slippers with the secretion of sweat. If they are often exposed to water, it will create a favorable environment for bacteria to reproduce, and then grow in large quantities. So we often have the illusion that a pair of slippers I bought before will not smell no matter how I wear them...
How to deodorize slippers?
Change and wash frequently
My personal usage habit is to change and wash slippers frequently, whether I buy EVA or PVC slippers. EVA slippers themselves do not have a pungent smell. If you often wear the same pair of slippers, whether you take a bath, go shopping, or wear them all the time except for sleeping, they will definitely smell easily.
If it is a budget issue, you can buy PVC slippers (no pungent smell), one pair for bathing (stand them up to dry after bathing), and one pair for dry feet. If there is a bad smell, use alcohol to disinfect and then rinse with clean water and dry, or wash with laundry detergent and then dry.
If the budget is not a problem, you can also change and wash frequently. The range of slippers is also wide. If they smell, wash them with detergent and dry them. If they don't smell, just throw them away~
