Usually we spend money and time to choose and order the shoes that we like or fit well. However, we don't know how long the shoes will last. Let us now recommend some effective protection methods.
1. Keep it clean
This is especially necessary and important for leather shoes, as the leather material can be deformed by soaking in water.
Generally speaking, the shoes only need to be wiped gently with a soft cloth or shoe brush. If there is stubborn dirt on the sole, use a stiffer brush to remove the dirt, then wipe it off with a damp cloth.
2. Cannot be washed by washing machine
Although it's easy to toss them in the washer and dryer for a quick clean, they wear out faster. Wash cycles and detergents can be too harsh on the material of your shoes, which can cause them to wear out faster or loosen eyelets and stitching. So immediately scrub your shoes with your hands before dirt starts to build up to the point of no return.
3. Fill with dry paper
Stuffing your shoes with newspaper has several benefits, such as reducing odor, drying when wet, preventing dry rot, and maintaining shape.
Avoid direct sunlight
As this will make the leather material more brittle and fade over time.
Replace with new insoles
If your shoes have removable insoles, it's a good idea to rotate them with new shoes to keep the insides of your shoes fresh. Clean the insoles and dab them with a diluted tea tree solution, which acts as a natural antibacterial and smells great.
6. Correctly protect the soles of the feet
The soles of your shoes are the most destructive, so it's important to protect them. While it may seem like overkill, using a sole protector can extend the life of your shoes.
Having your shoe repair shop place rubber soles over your original soles will not only protect your shoes from the elements, but also give you extra grip. If your soles seem to have worn out more, have them reassembled rather than throwing them away.
Leather soles will wear out faster and are therefore better suited for indoor use. Treat them if you want them to last longer.
7. Wear your shoes correctly
Many kinds of shoes can slide easily without damaging any part of the shoe. However, some styles, especially shoes with laces, don't slide as easily as others. Forcing the shoe or wedging the foot into the shoe with your fingers can damage the heel collar. Using a shoe puller will help your foot slide into the shoe with ease and ensure that the laces are properly loosened before taking them off.
