Four Misunderstandings in Choosing Children's Shoes

Jul 10, 2022

Many mothers know that buying shoes for their baby is a matter that needs attention, because only the baby knows whether it fits and feels comfortable. If the baby is not good at expression, it is easy to make his feet suffer; Traditional Chinese medicine believes that there are many important acupoints at the bottom of the foot, which directly affect the health of all parts of the human body. Choosing a good pair of shoes has become a major event that cannot be ignored.

Unfortunately, many mothers pay too much attention to it, so experts remind you not to go into the following mistakes in shoe selection:

Myth 1: the softer the upper, the better

Because children's bones, joints and ligaments are in the development stage, their balance and stability ability is not strong. If the back of the shoe is too soft, their feet cannot be supported in the shoes, which will make their feet swing left and right, which is easy to cause ankle joint and ligament damage, and may also develop poor walking posture. Therefore, the back of children's shoes should be firm and wrap the feet, so as to reduce the activity space of the feet in the shoes. If the vamp of children's shoes (especially the head) is too soft, it will be difficult to resist the impact of hard objects on the toes. Coupled with the baby's habit of kicking things when walking, too soft vamp is neither strong nor safe. However, the vamp at the instep should be soft to facilitate the bending of the foot.

Myth 2: the greater the curvature of the sole, the better

The sole of children's shoes should have appropriate thickness and soft hardness, but too soft sole can't support the sole of the foot, which is easy to make the baby feel tired. In fact, the comfort of shoes not only comes from the appropriate softness and hardness, but also depends on the bending part of the sole. The bending part of many children's shoes is in the middle of the shoes, that is, the waist of the feet, which is easy to hurt the baby's delicate arch. The scientific bending part should be located at the metatarsophalangeal joint of the forefoot of the foot, so as to be consistent with the bending part of the foot when walking.

Myth 3: thick soled shoes are comfortable and shockproof

When walking, the shoes need to bend constantly with the movement of the feet. The thicker the sole, the harder it will bend. Especially for babies who love running and jumping, thick soled shoes are more likely to cause foot fatigue, and then affect the health of knee joints and waist. In addition, thick soled shoes tend to increase the height of the heel in order to show the beauty of curve, which will make the whole foot rush forward and destroy the stress balance of the foot. For a long time, this will affect the joint structure of the baby's feet, and even lead to the deformation of the physiological curve of the spine. In serious cases, it will affect the normal development of the brain, heart and abdominal cavity. Therefore, the suitable sole thickness of children's shoes should be 5 mm to 10 mm, and the heel height should be between 6 mm to 15 mm.

Myth 4: shoes with bow insole are healthy and comfortable

Many children's shoes are equipped with a raised cushion in the foot center of the insole. Mothers generally believe that it can hold up the arch of the foot, make the baby feel comfortable, and have a health care effect. In fact, this kind of shoes is more suitable for adults. For children, it reduces the extension space of the arch of the foot, so that the arch muscles in the developing stage cannot get the necessary exercise. In the long run, the baby may become flat feet.
